Zero + Maria Cornejo
Four decades ago, designer, Maria Cornejo’s family was forced to flee Chile as political refugees. The current political limate has illuminated Cornejo’s past and brought about a sense of responsibility for the designer, inspiring her Fall/Winter 2017 collection, ‘Kill Them With Beauty’.
Women can be both strong and feminine, and Cornejo’s collection highlighted this with
a feeling of defiance and elegance combined.
Floor-length velvet draped dresses and fluid skirts, paired with wool and pleats represented sophistication and dominance, and the model’s array of ethnicities helped to exhibit the designer’s underlying message on unity.
Sealing the concept, Shiseido’s artistic director, Dick Page added a zealous red lip, making a purposeful statement.
“Maria’s collection offers great richness in the texture and fabric, so I created a glamorous, yet imperfect beauty look. It’s both bohemian and empowering all at the same time.” — Dick Page
Inkstroke Eyeliner in Kuromitsu Brown (BR606) (NEW for Fall 2017) was applied to the top and bottom lash-lines with the Inkstroke Eyeliner Brush (NEW for Fall 2017), and slightly diffused with Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment to create a rich eye without any hard lines.
To create the vibrant, multi-dimensional lip, Dick Page mixed Rouge Rouge in Poppy (RD312) with Rouge Rouge in Real Ruby (RD502), and covered the entire lip with both shades, blotting with a tissue in between a second application. The lipstick was applied on half the models in the line-up, leaving the remaining models with a fresh, moist, bare lip.
Rouge Rouge in Curious Cassis (RD620) (NEW for Fall 2017) was blended with Synchro Skin Glow Luminizing Fluid Foundation and smudged onto cheeks to produce a natural, sun-kissed look.
Skin was kept very natural with a light application of Synchro Skin Glow Luminizing Fluid Foundation to create an even appearance.
“You don’t have to look like a man to be strong…”, Maria Cornejo’s theme presented the resilience and power that women possess.
